Use Directory Listings
on Your Online Marketing Program
A lot of people think that getting listed in directories is just some sort of checklist item. They think that it’s just some sort of task that they have to do on their marketing to-do list.
They believe that as long as they do all the things that are on those list, that enough people will find them. This is wishful thinking.
Busting the Myth About Directory Listing
If you’re going to do something, blow it out of the water. Seriously. Nail it to the floor. Maximize your results. Do it seriously. Pay close attention to details.
Otherwise, you’d probably be better off not doing it at all. A lot of people that directory listing is just ministerial or some sort of procedure.
They go through the motions, then they cry when they don’t get any results. I’m sorry to be the one to break this to you, but the reason why you’re not getting any results is because you did not give it the right amount of importance.
You did not give it the time, effort, and attention it deserves. If you want to make sure that anything you do, as far as online marketing, truly works on a deep, profound, and highly effective level, you need to create a comprehensive system.
Unfortunately, a lot of people who are promoting small businesses or small online businesses think that promotions is modular. They think that they just have to do one type of promotion and everything will fall into place.
It doesn’t work that way. Think of online promotions as different small streams. These streams produce a low flow of water, but if you were to link up all these streams, they produce and combine into a large river.
That’s how you can tell the difference between a company that runs a comprehensive online marketing program and somebody who just simply doesn’t know what he/she is doing. This has nothing to do with budget.
You can be spending tens of thousands of dollars every single month on a one-size-fits-all, one-shot-big-shot type of online marketing program and you will still get the same result. You will fail.
Do yourself a big favor. Focus on a comprehensive online marketing program and let your directory listings become a crucial part of that.
How do you do that? Well, here are some ideas:
Link to social media on your link directory listings
Some directory listing platforms, such as ours, allow you to post the official link to your social media accounts. We cover Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, and many others.
Link to social media because this enables potential customers to look at your social media accounts and to get a clear understanding of what your business is about. It puts a human face to your business, believe it or not.
Link to content
When you are listed on directory listings that allow for free linking, link to content. I’m not talking about content that basically just promotes your stuff in a very transparent way.
I’m talking about content that addresses the needs of people who are interested in the type of service you provide. You have to understand that people are looking for solutions to problems. Address them at that level.
Make them all link to each other
If allowed, make your directory listings link to each other. This is not always available, but if it is available, take advantage of this feature.
Focus on branding
Branding in this context really boils down to just repeating your brand over and over again. You have to do it the right way. What is the right way? Consistency.
As long as you do it with a tremendous amount of consistency, don’t be surprised if you build a solid brand not just on link directory platforms, but also through social media. That’s how it works. Every little bit counts.
